|

I will be in the market for a receiver in the very near future. I'm leaning towards the 2112CI. From the reviews I have been reading it's pretty good for the price. Anyone have some feedback on these?
Also, what do I need to be looking for in the specs when I want to be able to say watch satelite without having to have the receiver on? Is there some kind of passthrough or something? This will be my first receiver. Any help or feedback is much appreciated. |

I don't know anything about those particular receivers, but I do know that what you would want for the passthrough is to send an HDMI output from your satellite receiver to your receiver and then from the receiver to the TV. I think the audio signal should go straight through regardless. However, I guess I can't say that from experience. I never try to skip the receiver, and my receiver is pre-HDMI.. I'm no help at all today! |

Denon comparisons
Audyssey
From what this is saying I would be dumb not to spend the extra dough and get the 2112ci.
I got a free Geek Squad home theater consultation just to get a $100 off certificate towards a home theater purchase of $499 or more. So I'm debating. Get the more expensive receiver $650 vs $550 and get the cheaper sub $199 vs $249. Maybe I will get the more expensive receiver and sub, then hope the sub goes on sell within 30 days and get the difference of the sale price back. Or just return the sub within 30 days and wait for it to go on sale. |

Check the internet for pricing... you will likely be able to get a much better deal. Newegg, amazon, etc.
I have a Yamaha 7.2 A/V receiver, but I've never tried the HDMI passthrough. My TV speakers are SHITE. |

Yep, looks like the 2112 is the way to go. I never considered Denon before. That thing looks pretty cool though. Lots of neat features.
I found it at hookedontronics.com for 519. I'd probably go with Mike's route unless you get some kind of free installation services or something, haha! |

LOL.
Well factoring in the $100 off I'll get it for $550. Instant gratification! If there are any issues I can take it back to Best Buy. Also I will get 18 months to pay it off, without interest. What sux is I'm going to drive to the Best Buy Magnolia store in Charlotte to get it, otherwise it takes weeks to get it ordered into a local store.
While I'm at it, since I will get a $50 gift card for spending over $499 I'm gonna get a cheap Logitech Harmony Remote for free. I'm gonna get the Logitech Harmony 650, on sale for $49.99. Remote
One day I will have a ginormous TV like HoT, then I will have the complete home theater. |

I went to Charlotte today to get the 2112 receiver and PSW110 sub. Man, I can see why they have a Best Buy Magnolia store there. Nice BIG houses and nice shopping centers. Couldn't get the $50 gift card because it's not valid with any other coupons($100 off). Oh well, I still only paid 49.99 for it, and I have 36 months no interest.
I have it all hooked up. I don't have a 5.1 setup yet, no rears. Tomorrow I will be able to crank it up and get it calibrated. I need to get a tripod for the setup mic. I have the floorstanding speakers bi-wired and bi-amped using the not needed 7.1 extra channels. What's nice is it gives me the option to use the extra amp to power the zone 2(future inceiling speakers in garage or back patio) if I choose. Figuring out how to get more sound out of the sub took some time. I finally figured out I had to go to "Channel Level" then do a "Test Tone" and adjust the sub from there. Before hand I had to turn the gain all the way up on the sub itself to get any bass at all.
Now since I have no cable or satelite I should have to run a sound cable(optical probably) from the TV to the AVR to be able to get sound through the AVR. Now what do I do if I want to have the option to not use the AVR for sound and just the TV? |

Hey man, not sure what you mean by Avr there..
Glad to hear you have things worked out mostly. I don't know what you would do to bypass the receiver. Anyway, why do you want to use your TV anyway? You know you can just turn it down, right? |

Matt,
That depends on the receiver and tv. The latest hdmi protocol supports audio back to the receiver over the exiating hdmi cable... But both the tv and avr have to support it. I think it's hdmi 1.4 or newer, but I'm on my mobile so don't feel like checking.
Regarding the audio for just tv watching, most tvs that output six audio have the option to leave the tv speakers functional or disable... All you would need to do is leave them functional and turn them down when using the system.
In other news.... We need a hotwirez Android app. |

I installed my inceiling speakers in the garage. I am so freakin stoked over my system now. I have a app where I can control the main zone and zone 2 separately. Both zones can play from separate inputs as well. Last night we had a little get together and while they played the Wii in the house Pandora was playing in the garage. |

YES.
That's exactly why I want to get a house -- such a pimp set up. Kudos man.

Yeah that is pretty awesome, man. I'm jealous now. The receiver technology moves along so slow that it always seemed silly to try to upgrade but maybe now it makes sense.. |
