HoT, or somebody...

Can you help me choose which video card to get. I'm debating on a Sapphire HD2600 Pro 512MB 128-bit GDDR2, or a Sapphire X1650pro 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 at newegg.com. AGP of course. I keep reading about driver issues with the HD2600. I don't want to get something and have to fight it to work. I'm not that good with computers. Help!

2600.. The real determining factor is the GPU speed. The drivers used for both cards are the same.

I've been on and off the phone with newegg because my debit card keeps getting "declined." I'm getting a wee bit frustrated at this point.

You probably need to call the credit union to make sure your address with Visa is correct.. It's 2 separate systems there and I've had this problem several times - They don't always update both systems properly!

Well, I called the bank after I finally had newegg manually charge the card. After being on hold listening to some music that sounded like it came right off of “The Computer Who Wore Tennis Shoes,” the bank informed me that Visa indeed did not have the current address. So, all should be well now. Yay.

Your Newegg.com SO# 86022626 has failed payment authorization

I have 8 emails with that title. Even after everything had to be done manually they are still telling me to wait 24 hours to see if the order will clear their billing system. I'm paying for rush processing and I'm getting tired of being told to wait.

Newegg's status finally shows my payement went through. So I hope it gets shipped today.

HoT, do I uninstall the old video drivers before I remove the old card? What would be the best way to uninstall them?

Also, do you think CompUSA would have heatsinks for the VGA memory?

Compusa --> Not likely

Video Card drivers uninstall --> Add/Remove Programs, then ATI Software Uninstall (or something to that effect if not exactly that). Restart when prompted and before POST finishes, turn the system off and install your new video card. Then install the latest Catalyst drivers, which I believe are 7.12 or so at the moment..

I meant the memory on the video card. I dunno if VGA was right. Anywho, CompUSA is closing here in Gboro. I went to check some stuff out. They were still trying to sell the card I'm getting for $150, but it was an ATI built one. CompUSA is so overpriced. ALL the heatsinks for video card memory are out of stock at newegg. I may just get it somewhere else, or ebay. I like the Thermaltake ones that are solid copper(CL-C0025).

Well, delivery attempt one failed. Maybe because I wasn't there. LOL Jessica got the day off due to the weather, and I'm sure she is sleeping like rock. I have made arrangements to pick it up myself, so I can avoid another day of damaging transit in the UPS Greensboro Hub. big grin

Should I use the omega driver or ATI? Do I need CCC?

I'd say the ATI drivers should work fine.. They've gotten better over the years.

Well the ATI driver, released a day ago so go update now, works. Heat sinks for the memory will be here monday. It's nice to turn the graphics all the way up on COD4. The GPU is overclocked to 660Mhz, and the memory is overclocked to 540MHz.

I'm going to try the new Catalyst 8.1's out today I think.. I hope they help me too! I'm not having any problems with these, but newer is better (usually).
