Imagine a bigger Manhattan jutting out into New York Harbor. A triple-decker boulevard running through its heart would accommodate trains on its lower deck, cars in the middle, and planes landing on top. This crazy-sounding futuristic vision actually originated a century in the past. A map illustrating it is among several fascinating transit planning maps recently scanned and posted online by the New York Public Library.
