|

Hey, I added some code to the forums that should autoban certain robots when they try to register themselves here.. I also wrote a portion myself that should notify me every time this happens, but I don't have a good way to test it, so I'm just letting you guys know that there is now some potentially unstable code running on the site..
As always, please let me know if you notice any problems whatsoever with the site.
I only added this because it was so annoying having to manually remove all of the stupid bots that registered themselves on this site. The intent is to have this process automated, as that's the whole point of coding things!
Thanks guys. |

As far as I can tell, the extra code is working completely. The only thing that would be nice is if I could figure out a really simple way to convert hexadecimal IP's into decimal octets for easier viewing when I get the notification emails. Other than that, I'm golden.
As a result of this modification, I will remove the administrative approval prerequisite of registering on the forum. If I find that there are more problems in the future, I'll go ahead and reinstate this 'feature'. |

And thanks to CoLDWiReZ for informing me of a problem with the banning code earlier today. I believe a recent patch must have changed the way that the php embedded in my templates are parsed. Anyhow, the change caused code that worked previously even though it wasn't exactly to standard to cease to function. The code now works properly.
If this has affected you, then please tell me when you were registering and your IP, and I'll fix it. AFAIK, this should have only affected people in the past week or so.
Sorry, and thanks, CoLD. |
