Hi guys, I just had an issue where my OCZ Modstream power supply went caput on me.. I came home after camping for Cold's birthday to a quiet office, with only the server running. To my dismay, my desktop machine wouldn't make it into Windows. After trying swapping processors, I decided that the power supply was the likely culprit. So, I ordered a beefier power supply from PC Power & Cooling, having heard good things from AthLonWiReZ about them.

This is the power supply.

This is a picture of the label showing the outputs on the varying rails (borrowed from newegg, as mine is already installed..). Take special notice of the 12V amperage.. Yes, it is 60A on a single 12V rail!

Also, here's a link to the exact technical specifications:

I must say that I am very happy thus far with the power supply's stability - especially on the 12V rail. Since coming here, it seems that I've been having some pretty extreme variations in the voltage being supplied to my systems, and I believe this is what killed my OCZ supply. The voltage actually drops down to about 100V at times. This supply has been tested and rated to perform down to that voltage, and so far, it's been doing a great job. My machine feels a little bit more stable, even though the AC line voltage isn't. The only downside to this thing is the price.. I found it for 160 at clubit.com, but everywhere else it's around 200 bucks. But, as power supplies should work for a very long time if they're well made, I decided to bite the bullet, and I'm glad I did. With a video card that takes a sizable chunk of my power supply's 12V rail, as well as an overclocked Athlon 64 X2, I needed some breathing room. This gives me all the room I could need in my little mid-tower.

Note - The connectors provided are very long - way too long for my case, but I know that there is a shortage of power supplies with cables long enough for use in full towers. This supply should fill that shortage quite nicely. Also, it has so many connectors that I was able to remove 3 different splitters and adapters, and I still have quite a few left over.

The bottom line: If you're in need of a new power supply and are looking to build a gaming machine, you should definitely grab one of these - the breathing room it gives will alleviate a lot of potential headache in your future.

I'd still say that brand is one of the best power supplies money can buy.

I think that looks pretty good i like those stackable ones that are one thitrd of the size of a regular one mostly because they look good. smile

I just want to mention that you should always use the physically larger power supply if at all possible, because in power supplies, bigger components generally means better components. Power supplies with fans blocking space that transformers and capacitors could be using are also included here. I imagine that given the right circumstances the smaller form factor power supplies would work well, but I don't think they should be used when you could be using a better larger power supply.

Also, if you're stacking them, you're only able to use the max output of any one of those at any time for any single component (or group of components, depending on your setup) , making the disadvantage that much more obvious, because careful analysis and planning of your components' individual power requirements would then be necessary.

I'm driving now, and I'm not sure that this post will even make it, so I'm going to cut it off here.

Oh, and COME AND VISIT US!!!

I think Smaller is better because it looks cooler and we all know modding isnt about performance its about looking wicked bad.
