Im not asking which one is better faster or a better value im asking which one requires less air circulation and smaller heatsink.

If all you're factoring is temperature, then the A64 is the coolest runner out there per performance. Any A64 should max out at 65 degrees C, according to design. P4's depend on the speed, topping out at 78 degrees C for their slower versions. The P4 Extreme Edition with its smaller process maxes out at 64 degrees Celsius. The thing you must consider here is that this is not a measure of the heat generated by either CPU. Rather, it is the maximum temperature at which these CPUs are able to operate. Lower temperatures here could lead you to believe that the CPU generates less heat, but that is not necessarily the case, as a high heat output with a lower value above would mean that the processor REQUIRES a high performance heatsink. That said, regardless of the processor, newer processes means lower heat generated. Really, A64's are very similar in heat generation to P4's. In my own experience, the A64 3700 San Diego core that I have, even when overclocked and at full load, doesn't go much higher than 104 degrees F, if that helps you out.

thats something to consider i think i want to go max preformance that can sustainably be in a small case and be cooled in the quietist manner possible

get a little water reservoir and tubing and a water block.. I think that would be a nice way to try to use as little space as possible. Or, at least it is easier to arrange that than it would be to have a honking cpu fan in there.
