What specs do you look at when looking into these? It seems a 2MB cache is the most common. Is there any performance differences between SATA and IDE with these? I would like a new DVD-ROM and DVD-R (black face) to match the case whenever I get one. If SATA is the way to go then I will hold onto mine(gray face) until I decide to upgrade the system. But I still want to get a new case. Also, does anyone favor a particular manufacture when it comes to these?

I don't think there's anything to worry about with regards to those, except that I'd recommend avoiding the SATA drives, as they're not yet mainstream enough/compatible enough to use as your primary drive.
